President’s Message
A Word from Tom Jacobson
Dear Friends,
I can count the number of times I have heard during my life the phrase, "This is the most important election of our lives."
Like many, I always dismissed this as just another attempt to hype-up the current election and raise money for candidates. More recently, faced with the importance of the upcoming November elections, I thought about this phrase again. By this time, you are expecting me to use this phrase to motivate you to become a bigger voice in the decision the country will be making this November.
Well, I am sorry to disappoint you. I will not tell you that this is the most important election of your lifetime. It is the next important election during your lifetime.
Every election is important and the degree of participation we devote to a particular election determines the outcome of that election. If we jump in and devote our time and resources to electing Republican candidates, then we will succeed. If we think someone else will make the sacrifice and we wait until election day to decide whether or not we will vote, the outcome will be easily predictable: two, four or even six years of childish governmental behavior. Our Lincoln Club plays an instrumental role in having our voices heard before and on election day.
We provide our members a chance to hear the candidates, become informed on the issues and prepare to tell friends and family why Republican candidates are essential if we are to restore the proper role of government. As a friend of mine so often says, it is time to provide some adult supervision in Washington and Sacramento.
Even though I hope you will tell your friends about our organization and its benefits, and get them to join our efforts, I want to make a plea to each of you to fully participate in the next important election during your lifetime. In additioin to what you do through your Lincoln Club dues, please consider doing what you can for our Founder, Congressman Ken Calvert. We can afford to be overly confident about his re-election given the events of the past election and the voter registration figures for certain parts of our County. Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina will win when you become fully involved and support their campaigns - not only financially but by doing your part with your friends and colleagues explaining why California can no longer afford another shot of Governor Moonbeam or six years of ineffective representation in Washington.
Yes, this is the next important election. I hope you will be there for our candidates and our country.
